Global Meetings Industry Celebration & Educational Event
Awareness & Action: Addressing Sex Trafficking
in the Event & Hospitality Industry
April , 17, 2025
Presented by MPI Kentucky Bluegrass Chapter
at The Campbell House |
Join us for an event that celebrates the power of the meetings and events industry while addressing one of its most pressing challenges. This unique gathering blends meaningful networking with impactful education, offering industry suppliers an opportunity to showcase their services to planners while fostering valuable connections.
Amidst the energy and collaboration, we’ll also shine a light on an issue that demands our industry's attention—human trafficking. In a thought-provoking panel discussion, experts in trauma research, hospitality, and survivor recovery will share critical insights on how trafficking intersects with our industry and what we can do to combat it.
It’s an event that captures both the best of what we do—creating connections and driving economic impact—while also acknowledging the darker realities we must confront together. Be part of the conversation, strengthen your network, and make a difference.
Learning Objectives:
- Understanding how trafficking intersects with large-scale events and hospitality
- Recognizing warning signs and taking appropriate action
- Implementing industry-specific best practices to prevent trafficking
- Connecting with resources to support survivors and advocacy efforts
Featured Speakers:
Dr. Ginny Sprang, University of Kentucky – A leading expert on trauma and human trafficking, Dr. Sprang will provide an overview of sex trafficking, including key statistics, myths vs. realities, and how traffickers operate.
Scott (Robert) Meuret, University of Kentucky Hospitality Program – With extensive experience in hospitality, Scott will discuss how traffickers exploit hotels and event spaces, red flags for staff and planners, and best practices for prevention.
Deanna Lynn, Executive Director, Refuge for Women – Deanna will share insights on recovery and survivor support, offering real-world perspectives on the long-term impacts of trafficking. She may also provide informational resources from Refuge for Women.
